On World AIDS Day, Honoring Those Who are “Fearless for All”

Every year since 1988, the global community has come together on Dec. 1 to commemorate World AIDS Day. It’s a time to show support for those living with and affected by HIV, remember those we lost to the virus and unite people in support of sustained HIV research.

This year, amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and a global rise in social justice moments, UNAIDS is renewing the call to end inequalities and end AIDS. Gilead, in turn, is spotlighting and celebrating the courageous and dedicated individuals who have been leading in these areas in a new campaign called Fearless for All.

A UK mom who has lived with HIV for more than 25 years mentoring other women and mothers. A Spanish man who started an organization that provides testing, counseling and a safe place for men living with HIV. And a transgender woman in Thailand advocating for equal access to healthcare services for her community. Those are a few examples of people who have been fearless in the face of HIV and who are working to reduce stigma, discrimination and disparities.

There’s still much work to be done. But as this video reminds us, we all can – and should – join in on the quest to end the epidemic and be “fearless for all.”
